VIRGINIA GASTON
Richmond Hill, GA

What excites you about the AT/T1 Challenge event?
The chance to experience a great location like the Appalachian Trail which I have always wanted to do while also spending time with incredible JDRF supporters raising money to fund T1D research.

What or who inspired you to get involved?
The JDRF staff’s enthusiasm about the event and the fact that it’s a new concept and first time event at JDRF got me excited about being a part of a great experience.

Who is joining you in taking the AT/T1 Challenge?
I convinced one of my best friends, Heather, to join me so that we could make a girls weekend of it.  I think we will have a lot of fun spending the weekend out in nature while being athletic and enjoying the beautiful scenery as well as making new JDRF friendships.  I think this Hike event will be a lot like the JDRF Ride event which enables people to connect and have fun all while raising crucial funds for diabetes research.

What’s your hiking experience?
My best hiking experience was a couple years back when we camped with some friends at Mount Magazine. The location had tons of trails and we could take a different one every day.  The scenery was beautiful and the elevation brought some appreciated cooler temperatures to a hot summer.
