Kids Helping Kids Raise Money for T1D Research

in

Each year, schools across the state of Georgia participate in JDRF’s Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes program.  Although the traditional program is to hold a Kids Walk, some schools go above and beyond and incorporate exciting and unique fundraising activities throughout the week for their students.

North Forsyth Middle School is one of the schools that creates a theme week for their school fundraising, and this year was a huge success! In just five days, they raised $2,866.92 that will support type 1 diabetes research! Their fundraising week kicked off with a presentation from a JDRF staff member and that day was themed Super Hero day. All students and staff wore their favorite superhero shirts in honor of the 4 students at their school living with T1D. The fun didn’t stop there either! North Forsyth Middle also had a “Sock out Diabetes” day with crazy socks and held a penny war competition between each grade. The grade that raised the most money selected a teacher to have a pie thrown in their face.

John (14) – “Our Walk was awesome.  I wish we could do them every Friday.”

Jessie (14) – “Every school should have a Walk, especially if they have diabetic students.  It takes a little time to plan them but it’s worth it.”

Adam (14) – “Our Walk was fun.  Daily challenges leading up to Walk day make it more exciting.  Be sure to put good stuff for sale in the Concession Stand.”

Jeanette (School Nurse) – I do this for our diabetic students.  They’re awesome kids, and we look forward to raising as much money as we can each year to help the scientists find a cure for T1D.

JDRF Georgia is thankful for North Forsyth Middle School’s continued support year after year. Interested in getting your school involved in JDRF’s Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes program? Contact Mallory Lamons at mlamons@jdrf.org or 404-420-5991.
